Frequently asked questions

What is Better in Person?

Better in Person is the no-BS dating app for real dates without the guesswork. No catfish, penpals, or Fboys allowed.

Each profile has a video vibe check so there are no surprises. If you match, the app helps plan your date by coordinating times, places, calendar invites, etc. Most importantly, you can report Fboys and other bad behavior to maintain a genuine dating environment.

What are vibe check videos?

Every profile includes a 5-20 second in-app video verification, or ‘vibe-check.’ You only need to do it once. Nothing can be uploaded or filtered; it’s just you and the camera at that moment. Better in Person provides simple prompts like ‘My favorite food…’ or ‘My idea of a perfect day…’ If you’re not willing to make a 5-second video, go back to your other apps.

What kind of dates can I go on?

We offer over 50 date options! Classics like dinner, coffee, and drinks, fun ones like arcade, axe throwing, and go-karts, and even wild ideas like a picnic in a cemetery, bobsledding, and couples therapy. There’s something for everyone.

After matching, the app will ask if you’re “Open to meeting up?” Select yes, pick a date type, and we’ll handle the rest—times, venues, and calendar invites. Have fun!

How does matching work?

When browsing profiles, you can either “Pass” or “Request’ a date.” If you request a date, the other person can accept or decline. If accepted, you can chat and set up a date. We encourage members to keep chats to a minimum and do like the name says: it’s better in person.

What is a F*ckboy?

A f*ckboy pretends to want a relationship but is just trying to get in your pants. This deception leaves women feeling used and tricked, and makes it harder for honest guys to be trusted.

Our mission is to eradicate f*ckboys from the dating equation, who are in the same category as liars and cheaters. Our app lets you report f*ckboys. Three strikes, and they get a “Warning: F*ckboy” banner on their profile. To remove it, they must send an apology video from their mom to imsorry@betterinperson.org. Any gender can be reported as a F*ckboy.

What cities is this available?

We’re technically nationwide, but we’re launching our love offensive in LA and NY. Once we’ve booted out every f*ckboy, penpal, and catfish, we’ll storm city after city across the Union. Not in LA or NY? Join anyway—it may be fewer people, but it only takes one great match to delete your dating apps forever.

How is this different from Hinge and Bumble?

On major dating apps today, 9 out of 10 matches never meet in person. Imagine if you called Uber and 9 out of 10 times it didn’t show up. Ridiculous, right? We set out to fix this with three key features:

  1. We turn matches into dates: We handle the logistics—time, place, everything. All you need to do is show up.
  2. Video vibe checks: Every profile has a recent & unfiltered video, so you can feel confident about who you’re meeting.
  3. Accountability: If you’re not meeting people, you’re off the app. No appeals.

What are you doing about safety?

On major dating apps, you’re swiping through old photos and guessing who you might meet, often ending up with mismatched vibes or creeps. On Better In Person, you can’t hide behind old photos. Every user must upload a 5-20 second verification video, showing their real self. No faking it. This means you’ll feel more confident meeting up.

Meeting new people (from anywhere) has risks. If you believe in “taking a chance on love” and that some things are better in person, this app is for you. If you prefer to chat endlessly and live in a digital bubble, stick to the other apps.

Is there a cost for Better in Person?

It is free to download, free to match, and free to date. Free members receive 20 profiles per day. We also offer a premium plan where members receive unlimited profiles and advanced filters such as height, ethnicity, religion, etc. Even if you pay, you must follow through on dates, or you’ll be removed. Take your money elsewhere if you’re not serious.

When will the Android version come out?

The Android version is likely to be released in Q1 2025.

What is a Treasure Hunter?

:musical_note: I ain’t sayin she a gold _____, but she ain’t messin’ with no broke… :musical_note:-KW

How does self-reporting work?

You can self-report as a F**kboy, Treasure Hunter, or more than 100 other tags like “Proud Narcissist” “Broke as Hell” and “Daddy Issues” to poke fun at yourself or warn people about your own issues. Everyone’s got their baggage! Note: Other people cannot report you for these, this is only for voluntary self-reporting.

How do you report another user?

If you come across dishonest behavior, you can report users as “F*ckboys,” “Treasure Hunters,” “Flakes,” or “Other.” Tap the gear icon on their profile, then click “Report.” You’ll need to explain and sign your name. We take reports seriously.

If a user gets 3 reports, a banner will be slapped on their profile to warn others. If they can’t handle the truth, they can delete their account to remove themselves (and the banner) from the community. Good riddance. That’s one less jerk for the rest of us to deal with.

How is the follow-through rate calculated?

This app is about being intentional. All members have to maintain a follow-through rate of 33% to continue using the app. This is the percentage of how many dates you go on out of the total number of matches you have. If you are below 33% – you’re profile is removed. Your follow-through rate is updated continuously with each new date or match.

How do I delete my account?

Go to My Profile (bottom right icon) and click on “Delete account.” Type “delete” and—boom—you’re gone. It’s like breaking up but without the awkward talk.
